This essay will examine and contrast two popular titles, "Detroit: Become Human" and "The Walking Dead," approaches to blackness, black characters, and important themes to construct feelings of empathy in dystopian worlds. They are praised for crafting diverse worlds and featuring black men, leading others to escape their respective worlds' perils. However, their portrayal of blackness differs. "Detroit: Become Human" uses black iconography and references, while "The Walking Dead" interconnects them with its mechanics and gameplay. Are they accurate, and do they truly create empathy? What are the differences, and which is more effective?
